One chance to make a good first impression

The time is nearing when we will be saying goodbye to winter and hello to glorious spring days! And if you’re in the market to sell your home, you will want to focus your ambitions on curb appeal to get the most money possible and make it more sellable.

First impressions are #1 when a potential buyer sees your home so put your best foot forward and clean up the mess! I’ve actually had listings before that were just complete dumps outside and you can just see the disgust and disappointment on a buyers face.

Don’t be that home seller!

Here are some great ideas that are sure to make your home stand out:

  1. Freshen things up - Toss dead plants you find around outside, get rid of crispy winter wreaths and Christmas lights. Wash windows and wipe down windowsills, outdoor lights, and door frames, and sweep off the porch. It’s a refreshing feeling when the outside of your home is cleaned up. And much more welcoming to home buyers.

  2. Show that your home is well-maintained – Walk around your home and make a list of exterior home improvements that need to be done. Make sure your home has good outside lighting at night. Also, if you don’t have one already make sure your house is numbered. Are your gutters green from winter mold? Do your walkway or steps need repairs? Trim your trees and shrubs so they aren’t covering any walkways or windows.

  3. Revive the outside - One of the simplest ways to boost curb appeal is with a fresh coat of paint. And pick a fresh new color for your front door to give your house a face lift. Stain your deck for a newer, fresher appeal.

  4. Bring out the welcoming mat - Add a special touch with some outside furniture, an appealing rug, or some decorative outdoor décor like wind chimes. Just don’t go overboard on outdoor accessories.

  5. Ad a landscaping touch – later in the spring, plant some shrubs, trees and bright flowers. All these will add pizzazz and bring buyers to your door.

Your home is most times your largest investment, make the most of it!
